Man Caves & What Dads REALLY Want

Man caves are becoming more and more popular among the male population.

Wikipedia defines a man cave specifically as:

A man cave, sometimes a mantuary or manspace, is a male sanctuary, such as a specially equipped garage, spare bedroom, media room, den, or basement. It is not a cave, but rather a metaphor describing a room inside the house … or outside the house, such as a wood shed or tool room, where “guys can do as they please” without fear of upsetting any female sensibility about house decor or design.

We love the notion that men are wanting to designate an area of the home specifically to their distinct tastes (we can give some creative freedom here) and needs.  In honor of Father’s Day, we wanted to showcase a few man caves that we felt would not “upset any female sensibility about house decor or design” and actually thought were pretty impressive.  And, in case your still stumped about what to get dear old Dad, we’ve shared a few of our gift ideas for you too!

Guys can have an unusual or sentimental collection. These mini bottles take on the form of art when displayed on glass shelves with a lighted back.

This collection of clocks looks cool on a distressed piece of furniture.

Joni Vanderslice: Rick LOVES knives (he is a surgeon!).  He chose these great pocket knives for our retail store.

Heather Lemieux: My husband is an aerospace engineer and loves anything to do with planes, but he never buys anything for himself!   I love these planked airplane panels from Pottery Barn – these would be perfect for his home office.

Haley Grant: My dad works for CenturyLink telephone company.  One of his favorite gifts of all time was an antique wall-telephone, similar to this one.  It now adds a bit of humor to his living room.

Using creative objects or found items can make a man cave unique, and may even provide bragging rights among buddies.

This oil barrel has been converted to a sink.  A perfect personal touch for any man cave.

Jennifer Farese: I am buying my Dad this animal tracking book for Father’s Day. He’s an avid hunter and sportsman.

A man cave is a perfect place to hang a hunting trophy.  This gathering of animal items is unique and even chic.

Marianna Barbrey: My Dad never buys frames or has pictures printed.  For birthdays and holidays I like to buy him a nice frame with a family picture placed inside.  I love these Tabacchino (Cigar Leaf) wooden frames we have right now.  This would look great on his desk.

Even a work space can be converted into a man cave. How cool is this octagonal shaped office?

Do you or your significant other have a man cave?  Please send us a picture. There are just so many fun variations on this concept and we would love to see what you’ve come up with!

And to all the Dads out there – Happy Father’s Day!
