Design Team Favorites: Fabrics and Wallcoverings

Designers deal with fabrics and wallcoverings daily.  It is their discerning eye that can look at two fabric samples, which to others might seem identical, and determine which would look best on a piece a furniture.   Presented with new samples daily, most of the designers have pinned up the fabrics they love or that inspire them around their desks. This month, we asked everyone  to share their current favorites. With so much love for fabrics and wallcoverings, you might just call us a bunch of …

Adrienne Warner : Take an (Italian) Seat!

Ciao Tutti! (Hi Everyone),

Chairs are a real passion of mine. Far more than just a ‘seat and four legs,’ the design options for chairs truly are endless. Recent travels abroad have allowed me to see many chairs that are not typically found in the states and I have discovered some truly incredible pieces.

On a trip to Italy last month, I saw some particularly amazing chairs. I hope you find them to be as inspiring as I did!

Arezzo1

Great market finds in Arezzo. This small town in Tuscany has a monthly antique market where we seek out well priced, special pieces for Castello di Casole.

bisazza

This picture is from several years ago but I had to share it in this post about Italian chairs. The chair is made entirely out of Bisazza mosaic tile and was designed by Alessandro Mendini. You can see Joni’s daughter, Sarah, in the bottom right.

If you see a fabulous chair, please send us a photo and tell us why you love it!

Felice Venerdi (Happy Friday)!

Design Team Favorites: Emerald

Emerald Header

Every December, Pantone identifies a shade it believes will be “the breakthrough color of the following year” after sifting through trends from around the world.

“Emerald is the color of balance and harmony, enhancing one’s sense of well-being and inspiring insight and clarity,” Pantone said.

A contrast to last year’s invigorating tangerine tango, emerald (Pantone 17-5641) is a lush hue that, “is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eyes sees more green than any other color in the spectrum, “said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

In honor of the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year, our staff shared their emerald favorites!

All of this talk of emerald makes us grin with trend-setting pride! We used this very color to introduce the J Banks Collection for Stanford Furniture during the 2007 Fall High Point Market. Take a look at our 2007 showroom snapshots below!

J Banks Inspiration

Joni recalls having to have the fabric specially milled because emerald fabric was simply unavailable at all of the factories. People were just not producing products in this hue. What a difference a few years can make.

We are excited to celebrate emerald in 2013!

Happy New Year!

The White Sofa Project

We took one sofa in our retail store and asked each of the J Banks Designers to style the sofa and surrounding space utilizing pillows, lamps and accessories.  Each Designer had the ability to create a space that not only showed their “of-the-moment” loves from our retail store, but also demonstrated how a design client can easily change a space by adding a few new elements. Every week a different Designer would style the space and the results were always unique. Below is an image of each design.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped with this project! It was fun seeing the same space interpreted through each different designer’s eyes.

If you’d like to purchase or receive additional information on any of these featured products, please feel free to stop by or contact our retail store at 843.682.1745. Thank you to KPM Flooring for donating the beautiful rugs that were used each week.

A San Francisco Treat

A few weeks ago, Joni and I were in San Francisco meeting with our new clients who have purchased a casali (farmhouse) at Castello di Casole.  One of the best things about travel is being inspired by the people and places we visit.  San Francisco is such a beautiful city with its own cool vibe and fabulous views. We were only there two days but accomplished a lot with our clients and managed to squeeze in a bit of fun as well!

Here are a few photos of some things we found particularly inspiring in San Fran!

The lobby at the Clift Hotel was designed by Philippe Stark. The colors are warm with pops of pale pink.  The dim lighting and dramatic fireplace create a very intimate, cozy space.

Yes – That is a huge oversized chair!

We met up with my friend Shannon (former J Bankser) at the Red Room Bar.

We fell in love with these classic Art Deco light fixtures.

Instead of a chocolate on your pillow, they leave you a postcard with these words of wisdom. Who knew Mark Twain was into fashion?!?

We did have a chance to get in a little retail therapy and were excited to see that color is definitely here for spring.

Joni introduced me to my newest LOVE… Britex Fabrics. Located downtown on Geary Street, this place is four stories of Designer Disneyland!

The fourth floor is all remnants of fabrics at great prices. Check out our haul!

Look for these Missoni fabrics on our retail floor soon. (Pillows or a fab ottoman?)
