Hannah Fulton : Pretty in Pink!

Recently some friends and I threw a shower for our sweet friend, who is expecting a baby girl this month.  Pink was center stage and we took cues from fashion and design to pull the shower together with current style!

The hostesses (and the mommy to be) love chevron!  This paper runner from the J Banks Retail Store ($34 for a 20” x 50” roll) was a perfect way to add a graphic pattern to our tabletop. Another of my favorite J Banks finds are these acrylic wine glasses.  I have a set of the tumblers and the wine glasses in clear, and another friend has the pink, so we combined them on the table and didn’t worry for a second about anything breaking!

The shimmery gold and cream hues were set off by mercury glass votives that were sprinkled along the table. The look was so subtle and pretty, we decided to mirror it on chevron place cards and menus. The left over paper will be perfect gift wrap!

When we designed the cake, we used an ombré concept on the icing, and within the cake for the layers!

Pink Montage

There is lots of love for ombré these days –ombré painted walls, furniture, fashion, finger nails and even hair.

We also used this concept for our flower arrangement, starting with light blush colored roses and cascading into deep pink tones.

And speaking of the flowers, nestled into the candelabra of fresh roses are (faux!) hydrangeas which I purchased from the J Banks retail store – at only $12 per stem. These were key in adding fullness to the arrangement, and because they are silk, they are hearty and not fragile, perfect to work with when creating this kind of detailed arrangement.

One of the hostesses is also a J Banks client, so it was fun to see our interior design as the perfect backdrop for our celebration.

The elegant Osborne & Little window treatment fabric created a billowy, soft, dreamy background to our intimate table for twelve.

One of my favorites from the J Banks Collection for Stanford Furniture, the Deb chair, provided the perfect perch for the mother to be to open gifts!

For this chair, our savvy client selected a textured aqua fabric. You’d never know it was suitable for outdoor use!  Not only does it look fabulous, but it performs well and is a suitable choice for her family of five.

Pink Vietri Flatware

I gifted baby (who’s mother and I share a passion for cooking and gourmet foods) with a set of Vietri Bambino flatware in PINK of course!  (J Banks also carries these in blue and clear for other foodie babes.)

The menu was delicious but light (we had to leave room for that cake!).

As guests arrived, they sipped on a bubbly rosé accented with a hot pink rock candy stick and nibbled on caprese sticks, melon and prosciutto pops and crab cakes. Baskets of assorted mini muffins were nestled on the table. A savory goat cheese soufflé was served aside spring greens tossed in a light balsamic, topped with roasted beets, candied walnuts and grilled chicken.

‘….Sugar & Spice & Everything Nice!’

Party guests were invited to create their own favors using pink sweet treats! They chose from cotton candy, pink popcorn, hand dipped marshmallows and more – all displayed in clear glass vessels. We also used this darling book, What Are Little Girls Made Of? (J Banks Retail $7.00) as the guest book for the event!

Despite the chilly temperatures lately, this shower has me in full spring mode!

Sharon Cleland: Fabulous Gift Under $50

I have pulled together items for everyone on your Holiday list.  Here are some of my favorite gift ideas:

For the Fashionista or Design Lover:

This compact Pantone color palette book is THE essential reference to inspire every designer. This would be a wonderful item to pair with a sketch book or project journal.

For the Chef or Gardener:

(Inside this burlap wrapping is…) a recycled ‘green’ wine bottle that has been repurposed as a grow your own basil herb kit. This pairs nicely with a gourmet dip mix.

For the hostess or colleague:

A simple low cost gift idea would be to use this delightful antler handled mug filled with chocolate treats and presented with a pack of holiday napkins. I tied an ornament into the bow for a bit of added sparkle!

For the Holiday Lover/Decorator:

I love this fabulous crackle glazed candle holder. One of these would look great on a mantle amongst greenery.

We have a vast selection of mercury glass trees. Some of them even include LED lights. These would add that extra holiday twinkle to bookcases and tables!

For the Golfer:

A book containing a ‘bucket list’ of golf destinations complete with novelty golf tee keychain is an essential for the avid golfer.

For Him:

What fellow would not be happy to receive a collegiate football bottle opener with beer glasses, and a six pack?

For Her:

The essential clutch – these beaded and velvet clutches are the perfect accessory for this holiday party season.

For the Pet Lover:

Gourmet ‘sushi’ dog treats with the latest in leash technology (treat holder, clock, flashlight, baggie holder & leash all in one!) would make great gift for your four-legged friends and their owners.

J Banks Retail has gifts for everyone on your list!  Come see us M-F 10am-6pm & Saturday 10am-4pm.

Happy Holidays,

Holiday Decor: Inspiration to Creation

The task of decorating for the holidays can be daunting.  There are endless options and themes and it can be hard to decide where to begin!

We have been gearing up for this holiday season transforming our retail store into a winter wonderland. Beginning as early as September, our buyers and merchandisers gathered to pull inspiration photos, and to compare pictures of what was scheduled to arrive and what was currently on hand that could be used for this year’s displays.

One of our favorite approaches is repurposing existing items as well as buying the latest and greatest during the Fall Markets!  Mixing the old with the new creates interest, and better yet – allows you to save your dollars for gift giving!

Here is an example of one of the inspiration photos we used for our holiday vision – we love the simplistic, yet shimmering glamour of the tree!

Using this as our inspiration, we took our bare tree, metallic spray paint, and items already found in our store to make our perfect store entrance vignette.

Mercury bottle votives became cool over-scaled ornaments, and burlap ribbon became glitzy dressing by simply spray-painting it silver. The metallic theme was also applied to an older red wreath and voila – we had a new tree topper complete with ‘JB’ letters as the finishing touch!  Combining existing goods with our fabulous new mercury balls, sparkling vine orbs, and festive ornaments makes a grand statement.

Interested in repurposing your existing Christmas holiday décor into new ideas and displays?  We can help!  Our designers are available for hourly consultation to help you create displays that will dazzle.

And if all you need is a little inspiration, then please plan to join us for our Holiday Open House on Thursday, November 8th from 3-7pm.  All of our displays will be ready for gazing AND shopping!

We can assure you, J Banks Retail has the holidays covered with gift ideas for everyone on your list!

See you soon during all our holiday events!

Go for the Gold!

Inspired by the Olympics, we asked our Designers to share some of their favorites in gold, silver and bronze.

Designers Janet Perry and Jenny Ladutko love these fabulous light fixtures that they specified for the Dataw Island clubhouse.

This sconce has a mercury glass look but is unique with its combination of gold as well as silver.

This light fixture has stunning details, and the gold candlesticks differentiate the piece from other chandeliers.

Janet and Jenny weren’t the only Designers loving golden light fixtures.  Deb Van Plew loves these Etch Shade pendant light fixtures from Tom Dixon.

These look great alone or hung in groups!

Deb also loved this bronze hued hand-rubbed table.

Designer, Doris Gilch, shared this amazing amber Murano glass light fixture that she, Joni and Adrienne just installed at our project, Hotel Castello di Casole in Tuscany, Italy!  The statement fixture is the perfect focal point and sets the ambiance for the wine room in the Ristorante Tosca.

Designer Hannah Fulton shared her current favorite faucet from Kohler’s Purist Collection.

Hannah loves the high spout and sleek design!

Jennifer Farese shared a fun fact. There was actually no bronze, silver or gold at the ancient Greek Olympic Games.  Winners were crowned with the beautiful, yet rather simple prize of an olive branch wreath, or kotinos. She loves how Michael Aram translated this symbol of victory into his signature Olive Branch Collection.

Available in our Retail Store, the Olive Branch Collection is created using castings of oxidized solid bronze. The pieces are simple and beautiful.

Lisa Whitley was also loving golden hued lighting.  She selected this antique brass lamp as one of her current favorites.

Lisa loves the brushed finish as it provides a softer look than a polished finish would.

Adrienne Warner shared this picture of a favorite golden landmark in Paris. The Renommée des Sciences (Fame of the Sciences) is on the right bank of the Alexander III Bridge.

What are your favorite gold, silver, and bronze items?

Crazy for Quatrefoils!

During our recent work in Italy on the interiors of the Hotel Castello di Casole we started to notice a trend.  Quatrefoils everywhere!  While this shape is certainly not new, (even the name is old meaning “four leaves”  from the Latin quattor, four, plus folium, a leaf), we love the modern twists it has taken. When we returned home, we began seeing quatrefoils in items in our Retail Store, and even in the J Banks Collection for Stanford Furniture. Take a look at what we found.

This is a cabinet detail in the Hotel Castello di Casole.

Do you spy the quatrefoil moulding in the Visconti Bar of the Hotel Castello di Casole?

Here is a better angle

Joni fell in love with these Greenwich Side Tables at the Spring 2012 High Point Market.  Oomph creates them in so many fabulous colors and finishes. We adore this funky modern take using quatrefoils, and we can’t get enough of their creative creations!

These hurricanes are elegant and classic. The combination of brass and mercury glass is just perfection.

The Marianna Mirror is a new piece from the J Banks Collection for Stanford Furniture.  Joni based it on a chapel floor that  she saw in Tuscany (see picture above). This particular version of the shape is called a ‘barbed quatrefoil.’ A barbed quatrefoil is a quatrefoil that has triangular projections at the intersection of two adjacent foils. This mirror can come finished in any  Sherwin Williams color.  The possibilities are endless!

Where have you seen quatrefoils?  How would you incorporate them into your home decor?
