Joni Loves : May 2013

Joni's Loves Header

Accumulation No 1 by Yayoi Kusama

I saw this chair at the Museum of Modern Art while chaperoning a school trip for my daughters in New York.  At first I thought it looked like it was covered in shag carpeting. Upon closer inspection you can see that it is composed of sewn stuffed fabric, with some paint and chair fringe along the bottom. The piece is one of the earliest sculptures by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.  She hand sewed every element on the chair.

PETS ROCK cushion covers Takkoda

I saw several things at the April High Point Furniture Market that caught my eye.  The PETS ROCKS line by Takkoda puts pet faces on the heads of popular celebrities.  Their motto, is ‘Real Pets, Not Real Celebrities.’ I thought they were too fun not to share!

3 - Vintage Chair

I loved this vintage chair!

4 - Cocktail Table

Loved the GREEN of this cocktail table in the Worlds Away showroom.  The base is a gold leafed Greek key design. So cool!

5 - Bench with Lucite Legs

This bench is from the Somerset Bay Home collection for Stanford Furniture.  Stanford is the same company that manufactures our furniture line, the J Banks Collection.  I loved the lucite legs on this bench!

It has been a whirlwind spring with lots to see and lots to do.  I look forward to a few slower weeks ahead and sharing my summer favorites with you soon!

Joni Loves : March 2013

We are excited to introduce a new feature on our blog – Joni Loves!  Every month Joni Vanderslice will share her five current “Loves.” Take it away Joni!

Joni's Loves Header

Kente Cloth 1

On a recent trip to Ghana I bought Kente cloth. I had pillows made and a chair recovered with the fabric for my home. Kente cloth is full of history and meaning. Read more about Kente cloth here.

La Fonte 2

This is a bathroom from our project, Castello di Casole, in Italy. I love the juxtaposing elements of the contemporary Bisazza tile with the old world Tuscan materials of stone and wooden beams.

June Pug 3

My pug wearing emerald, the Pantone Color of the Year!

Two Girls in Avignon 4

These are AMAZING hand painted linen panels I found at NYIGF. The panels, which look like old charcoal sketches of Paris, can be used for shower curtains, drapery, headboard walls, etc.

Steamboat Ice Castle 5

The Steamboat Ice Castle is an amazing structure of ice and turquoise-colored tunnels that I was able to explore with my family this winter. Definitely a must see attraction if you are in Steamboat Springs, CO.

Design Team Favorites: Emerald

Emerald Header

Every December, Pantone identifies a shade it believes will be “the breakthrough color of the following year” after sifting through trends from around the world.

“Emerald is the color of balance and harmony, enhancing one’s sense of well-being and inspiring insight and clarity,” Pantone said.

A contrast to last year’s invigorating tangerine tango, emerald (Pantone 17-5641) is a lush hue that, “is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eyes sees more green than any other color in the spectrum, “said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

In honor of the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year, our staff shared their emerald favorites!

J Banks Inspiration

Joni recalls having to have the fabric specially milled because emerald fabric was simply unavailable at all of the factories. People were just not producing products in this hue. What a difference a few years can make.

We are excited to celebrate emerald in 2013!

Happy New Year!

JB
