Design Team Favorites: Emerald

Emerald Header

Every December, Pantone identifies a shade it believes will be “the breakthrough color of the following year” after sifting through trends from around the world.

“Emerald is the color of balance and harmony, enhancing one’s sense of well-being and inspiring insight and clarity,” Pantone said.

A contrast to last year’s invigorating tangerine tango, emerald (Pantone 17-5641) is a lush hue that, “is the most abundant hue in nature – the human eyes sees more green than any other color in the spectrum, “said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

In honor of the 2013 Pantone Color of the Year, our staff shared their emerald favorites!

J Banks Inspiration

Joni recalls having to have the fabric specially milled because emerald fabric was simply unavailable at all of the factories. People were just not producing products in this hue. What a difference a few years can make.

We are excited to celebrate emerald in 2013!

Happy New Year!

Go for the Gold!

Inspired by the Olympics, we asked our Designers to share some of their favorites in gold, silver and bronze.

Designers Janet Perry and Jenny Ladutko love these fabulous light fixtures that they specified for the Dataw Island clubhouse.

This sconce has a mercury glass look but is unique with its combination of gold as well as silver.

This light fixture has stunning details, and the gold candlesticks differentiate the piece from other chandeliers.

Janet and Jenny weren’t the only Designers loving golden light fixtures.  Deb Van Plew loves these Etch Shade pendant light fixtures from Tom Dixon.

These look great alone or hung in groups!

Deb also loved this bronze hued hand-rubbed table.

Designer, Doris Gilch, shared this amazing amber Murano glass light fixture that she, Joni and Adrienne just installed at our project, Hotel Castello di Casole in Tuscany, Italy!  The statement fixture is the perfect focal point and sets the ambiance for the wine room in the Ristorante Tosca.

Designer Hannah Fulton shared her current favorite faucet from Kohler’s Purist Collection.

Hannah loves the high spout and sleek design!

Jennifer Farese shared a fun fact. There was actually no bronze, silver or gold at the ancient Greek Olympic Games.  Winners were crowned with the beautiful, yet rather simple prize of an olive branch wreath, or kotinos. She loves how Michael Aram translated this symbol of victory into his signature Olive Branch Collection.

Available in our Retail Store, the Olive Branch Collection is created using castings of oxidized solid bronze. The pieces are simple and beautiful.

Lisa Whitley was also loving golden hued lighting.  She selected this antique brass lamp as one of her current favorites.

Lisa loves the brushed finish as it provides a softer look than a polished finish would.

Adrienne Warner shared this picture of a favorite golden landmark in Paris. The Renommée des Sciences (Fame of the Sciences) is on the right bank of the Alexander III Bridge.

What are your favorite gold, silver, and bronze items?

Market Report : Spring 2012 High Point Home Furnishings Market, High Point, NC

Twice a year, members of our design team head to the High Point Home Furnishings Market to see the latest and greatest new introductions from manufacturers. Here is a quick peek into some of their favorite finds.

The J Banks Collection was the unanimous group favorite! Joni introduced 19 new pieces including case goods and upholstery. Her designs are manufactured by Stanford Furniture and debuted in Stanford’s High Point showroom. We can’t wait to show everyone pictures, but we are saving them until our Hilton Head J Banks Collection launch which will be happening in our retail showroom later this summer. Above is a quick sneak peek of one of the pieces.  Joni unveiled several new nail head patterns that were a huge hit with buyers.

Here are more favorites and comments on why they stood out to us:

Diane Lancaster: I loved this fabulous ocean scene by artist Kitty Williams from Lucky Fish Galleries. She is an amazing artist and all of her work is beautiful, but this particular piece was so real. I felt as if I was in the middle of the ocean.  As always, her lovely works of art were showcased in the Lee Industries showroom.

Diane Lancaster: I also had the opportunity to meet the owner and designer of Curations Limited, and chat with her about her business. She was lovely! Her pieces are much like Restoration Hardware and very much on point for today’s trends. Fantastic case goods in gray and light coffee finishes, neutral fabrics, and comfy upholstered seating and sofa options.

Kristin Magowitz: Polart has the coolest collection of outdoor pieces.  They are very traditional, elegant silouhettes, but are made of hard plastic and sturdier outdoor upholstery materials.

Kristin Magowitz: Tempaper makes temporary wallpaper.  What a great way to quickly add character to a wall.

Hannah Fulton: I was inspired by creative details at this market. Whimsical zippers, contrast welts, decorative tapes and creative nailhead placements were everywhere – especially within the J Banks Collection!

Sharon Cleland: It was very difficult for me to narrow down the treasures I spotted at Market, but these pictures are of my absolute favorites.

Sharon Cleland: I love the lamps and the mix of materials and finishes at Currey and Company.
Sharon Cleland: I love this contemporary twist on the traditional chandelier.
Sharon Cleland: The simplicity of this cross based table makes it flexible for use in a traditional or transitional setting.

Sharon Cleland: The bracket legs of this table add character, and are perfectly suited for a small entryway.

Deb Van Plew: Rustic – simplistic – sophisticated – LOVE. MacRae – museum crate console

Deb Van Plew: Moroccan rug – the foundation to an amazing room

Deb Van Plew: Cool retro vibe

Deb Van Plew: LOVE!!  I could move right in to this room.

Deb Van Plew: Color – texture – pattern- hip vibe

Marianna Barbrey: I loved this take on the standard folding chair in the Moe’s showroom.  What a great way to add interest to such a typically blah item.

Marianna Barbrey: These gold leaf bowls by Selamat were so pretty.  They came in silver leaf as well.

Marianna Barbrey: This blue bottle chandelier in Arteriors was the coolest!  It reminds me of the bottle trees that some locals in the Lowcountry will put in their yard.  While in the showroom, we also got to meet Mark Moussa, the creative mind behind the Arteriors designs.  What a treat!

Shelley Wilkins: I LOVE this lamp!  It clips to any side table or console.  It is so classic in design with a retro feel.

Shelley Wilkins: I fell in love with this pillow.  It is so simple, but has so much punch.  It is three simple, plain linen fabrics constructed into a chevron pattern….fabulous!

Market means long days on your feet.  Look at the sweet surprise from Joni’s daughters, Sarah and Grace, to keep us motivated.  It made our day!

We hope that you enjoyed our picks and found some inspiration of your own!

JB
