DIY: Glasses Holder

DIY Header

The J Banks retail store was in desperate need for a unique and shop-able eye glass display. I recently made a display similar to the one featured on this month’s DIY so I offered to make one for the retail store! One of the J Banks employees graciously donated her vintage mirror, thank you Jenn!! But you can really make this with any kind of mirror or frame of whatever size you feel like!

Step 1. Since the mirror had been stored in the attic, I first dusted and cleaned the face of the mirror. I then flipped the mirror over, laying the front face down and measured with a pencil where I needed to place the screw eyes. It really just depends on how big of a piece you are working with and how many glasses you think you will be hanging on the frame.

Step 2. Once you have all of your holes marked, take out your drill and drill holes into the back of the frame.

Step 3. Then take your screw eyes and twist them into the holes you just marked until they are securely in place. Take your fishing line and weave the end of the line through your first screw eye. Make sure you are tying a secure knot or else the knot will slip when tension is created. Once your knot is secure, pull the line across to the other screw eye to give yourself an idea of how much length you will need. Cut the line, leaving yourself an extra 4-5 inches. Repeat this step for all of the screw eyes along the same side. Pull each line across across the front of the mirror as taut as it will allow and tie the same knot through each screw eye.

Step 4. Trim any excess fishing line you may have and hang the frame. Once it is hung, you can then display the glasses! However, don’t limit yourself to just using the frame as a sunglasses or glasses holder, as the piece would also be perfect for hanging jewelry as well! Check out the finished product below, now displayed in J Banks retail!

Lauren, I absolutely love this idea since I own numerous sunglasses and glasses. I really don’t like looking thru all my cases to find the “right” pair. I also think I would have to hang this mirror over a carpeted floor as I would be afraid of a pair falling off and breaking/scratching.

I am going to try this.

  3. So cool! Great Idea, way to repurpose this DIY glasses holder.
