Several months ago I watched an interview with Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh speaking about his book, Delivering Happiness, and his concept of “giving his clients a wow.” This concept resonated with me because I feel that is our top priority at J Banks Design and what we strive for everyday with our clientele. No matter what size project or what your budget may be, we want to ‘deliver happiness’ and give you the wow factor that each project deserves.
I have been very fortunate over the past 24 years with J Banks to have clients that trust me and continue to retain me as their designer. Even though we are in a down economy, we have continued to stay busy. We have been fortunate to work on several renovation projects both locally and nationally. In working on renovations, we get to do before and after portfolios, and there is no better visual tool to show clients a space’s potential.
I have included a few photos from The Hilton Oceanfront Resort that was formerly the Mostly Seafood Restaurant and has now been transformed into XO Wine and Champagne Bar. In addition, we redesigned The Regatta Lounge and transformed the space into HH Prime, an incredible steak and seafood dining destination.
“When we embarked on our plans to make a strategic shift with our brand, market and community image ….the J Banks team partnered with our vision and delivered us a 5 diamond facility. Our customer feedback results have improved by 22% and revenues are up 300%. The work of the J Banks Team has elevated our resort and put us back on the map in our community.”

New XO Wine & Champagne Bar
Here is another photo from the 1984 space.
Our design of the new XO Wine and Champagne Bar is impressive.
This is a picture of the Regatta Lounge from 1984. You can see the old stage and atrium ceiling which were both removed.
The new space has impressive two story ceilings and a tabby fireplace. We also incorporated some fabulous leather Deb Chairs from the J Banks Collection.

The new HH Prime Restaurant. No more mauve walls or ceiling fans! Note the custom light fixtures, wall sconces and sculptural sheet rock wall. The custom staircase takes you to the mezzanine level.
Another loyal client, Toll Brothers, a national luxury homebuilder who developed Hampton Hall in Bluffton, SC, has kept me busy up and down the East coast with their existing clubs. When the President of the Golf & Country Club Division calls you to say their “food and beverage business increased by 40%” after our renovation, it makes it worthwhile and confirms that we are ‘delivering happiness.’ The ability to take a tired unused space and give it a whole new dynamic makes me happy as well!
I was hired by Toll Brothers to renovate the previous Fleur de Lis Cafe within the Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. We transformed the space into the new Frenchman’s Parc Restaurant. We wanted the palette to capture the bold and vibrant colors Palm Beach is known for as well as the authentic architectural aspects one would expect in a Parisian café or bistro. The vintage look of the mosaic tile and distressed wood floors along with the pewter bar top and cozy leather banquettes set the stage. In addition, the awning and market umbrellas allow for dining al fresco which truly defines the complete experience.
This is the old cafe space that was in need of a facelift.
This is the cafe space of the new Frenchman’s Parc Restaurant. We divided the space with a 60″ high banquette to separate the bar from the dining area.
The old bar with expected brown finishes everywhere
Now with the cool new pewter bar top and mosaic floors it has an updated vibe.
Al fresco dining area
The existing vestibule was drab and had no character.
We added the mosaic floors to the space and found a great antique piece which serves as a main focal point.
This mirror is another fun piece we found to give the space additional character and depth.
The best part of my job is ‘delivering happiness’ to my clients. These projects are a few examples of how I have been able to do just that. I look forward to sharing more “before and after” projects soon!
